WHAT IS PARSON PREACHING?
"ALL WE LIKE SHEEP HAVE GONE ASTRAY"
ISAIAH 53:6
Many years ago a
man would go from town to town spreading the good news of Jesus Christ
and invariably faced the question "are you a Reverend?" Being just a
simple man with a simple message he wondered about the best way to
respond. He couldn't allow himself to be called reverend
because it was only in the Bible one time (Ps. 111:9) and it was the
name of God. The titles evangelist and minister sounded a little
important for a plain old cowboy trying to obey 1 Peter 3:15, "be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear." He
decided he was just a person, the same as those who heard him share his
faith. So when Jake asked if he was a Reverend he said, "No, I'm just a
person." As he traveled he taught that Christians can serve God today,
without denominations just like 1st century Christians. The response
was astonishing. The people he met were tired of denominations, creeds
and division. One day as he was preaching in the meeting house Clem
turned to Jake and asked, "Is he a Reverend?" Jake remembered what the
preacher had said and being just an ole country boy with an accent to
fit replied, "Naw he's just a parson." Little did he know that parson is just a form of the word person. From then on the parson would come to town and encourage the people to "come out from among them and be ye separate saith the Lord." (2 Cor. 6:17)
Here you will find Bible study that comes from the heart of a simple parson.
A person just like you. A person who believes that us common folk can
understand the Bible. A person who believes that many times the truth
is overlooked just because it is simple. A person who misses old time non-denominational preaching. A person who believes it is
the obligation of every Christian to "keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace." (Eph. 4:3) This is parson preaching.
